Calling all students, parents, teachers, education workers and community members to take part in a national day of action to defend public education…

Stand UP! 

Speak OUT!

Join Right to Education, Occupy the DOE and Southside Community Schools Coalition for:
2PM MARCH starting @ Department of Education Headquarters (52 Chambers Street)
led by Right to Education
4PM SPEAK OUT @ Fort Greene Park (Dekalb Avenue side)
facilitated by Occupy the DOE and Right to Education

5PM PRESS CONFERENCE @ Brooklyn Technical HS (Dekalb and Ft. Greene Place)
led by Southside Community Schools Coalition
At 6PM the Panel for Educational Policy will vote to co-locate more charter schools in public schools. Various students, parents, educators and community organizations have called to boycott the PEP.

  1. For god’s sake stop scheduling these marches during work hours, or make people take kids out early to attend. You are pretty much ensuring that the only participants are the unemployed or semi-employed core, who are doing great work, but are routinely ignored. If you want all of us to participate, make it so we can. And no, we can’t all risk our jobs to take the afternoon off, so please don’t respond with that. It seems that a lot of these actions are serving the needs of certain serial-participators to feel they have done their part, not to give voice to the majority.

    Or keep on having meager turnouts, because that will only have the opposite effect of what it is we all want, better schools that aren’t run by companies.
